From October 28-30, 2007 ten students from UTS joined more than 600 youth and young adults for the 5th National Interfaith Youth Conference at the Chicago Cultural Center. The group, which included students from Kenya, the United States, the Martial Islands, and Poland, traveled to Chicago for the three day event sponsored by the Interfaith Youth Core and supported by more than thirty different interfaith organizations from around the United States. Emmanuel Tanui, a student enrolled in the new interreligious peacebuilding concentration, commented that “the gathering provided a forum to learn from people of different faiths and their views on pluralism and peace among religions.” Seong Ho Lee, a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry degree, noted the “strong impression” he felt from the experience which led to a better understanding of how “the interfaith movement has become an important stream in the current era and society.” Kate Korda, also concentrating in interreligious peacebuilding, liked the conference because it provided her with “the freedom to explore” and “get to know others, what they do and where I am in all that.” The 6th National Interfaith Youth Conference will be held in 2009. In September, UTS President Dr. Tyler Hendricks met with the founder of the Interfaith Youth Core, Dr. Iboo Patel, at a Council on Foreign Relations Conference in New York City.
