The following report is from Dr. Robert Kittel, UTS ’93, who was in Kathmandu on April 25 and whose wife remains there. Dr. Kittel is temporarily visiting the United Statesand serves as the Universal Peace Federation Director for Education in Asia.

The Unification Theological Seminary welcomed two new trustees to the Board in April, Dr. Hugh Spurgin, UTS President announced.  “We are looking forward to the energy and talents of Dr. Thomas Ward and Dr. Christine Hempowicz of the University of Bridgeport,” Spurgin said.

UTS is proud to announce that it has completed its five-year Periodic Review Report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. This in-depth report evaluated the school's performance measured by the MSA's fourteen "Characteristics of Excellence" by which all institutions of higher education are evaluated. The seminary's accreditation has been affirmed, certifying that UTS meets these public standards as judged by its profession.

These characteristics require that UTS goals are consistent with the aspirations and expectations of higher education. The school demonstrates responsible and effective planning and possesses adequate resources in terms of personnel, facilities, and financially. We have a clear governance structure that functions effectively and appropriately, conduct our business with integrity and transparency and have a clear plan by which we assess our effectiveness in achieving our stated mission and goals. As an accredited institution UTS admits only students who meet stated qualifications and we support our students in completing their program. And as the foundation for it all, UTS provides a good quality education by means of a qualified faculty, with solid academic content, rigor and coherence that meet all standards for graduate education.

UTS knows that today's students invest time and money on the basis of degree value for careers and professional licensing, and that accreditation, a publicly-recognized certification of excellence in education, guarantees them that result. The accredited degree also allows graduates to enroll in doctoral programs, as UTS credits are widely recognized.

The faculty and administration look forward to continual improvement in keeping with the expectations of the field of professional higher education in America. UTS benefits from the rigorous standards and evaluation that the MSA provides, and is proud to have its accreditation from this globally-recognized entity.
