Mr. Henry Christopher, UTS Director of Admissions, has become the UTS Community Relations Officer. The first major project accomplished by Mr. Christopher was developing the UTS trails system as an offering to the local community. He joined the local trails committee and also the Red Hook Historical Society. Mr. Christopher has carried out research on the history of the Barrytown campus, including the sojourn of Theodore Roosevelt here as a boy. Mr. Christopher also assisted in the hosting of candidates to local elected positions at the school.
The Barrytown Nature Club is another accomplishment of the Community Relations Office. The club now has 5 Barrytown residents who are committed to improving and beautifying the UTS campus. We will soon break ground on the community garden and for our next meeting, we will be putting together bird house kits to be hung around the campus. We also recently purchased 4 Bluebird houses for distribution around the campus. The bird houses were the inspiration of Sandy on Barrytown Rd., a member of the club.
He is presently working on the development of Father's Trail as part of the Greenway Heritage Trail system, and is establishing documentation on the 1983 accident of Heung Jin Moon, son of the school's Founder, on the road south of UTS. The school intends to publicize the self-sacrifice of the young Mr. Moon as he swerved his car to protect his passengers, exposing himself to fatal injuries.
